Serial auto burglar crew arrested after returning to crime scene

Prolific auto burglars from Oakland were captured after returning to the crime scene. San Mateo police officers stopped these burglars in their tracks and prevented further victimizations.

San Mateo, CA – On Monday, February 12, 2019, at 8:24 P.M. San Mateo Police Department’s patrol division was conducting high visibility enforcement in the area of 2nd Avenue & S Bayshore Blvd to combat an auto burglary series. Oakland residents, Angel Yanez Estrada and Eusebio Arenal Amador, returned to San Mateo on Monday after targeting utility trucks the previous night, costing victims over $10,000. While canvassing the area earlier that day, officers located one home surveillance video that captured the license plate of a silver Nissan Altima fleeing the area after breaking into several utility trucks and targeting their tool boxes.

Officers spotted the same silver Nissan Altima driving around the area of 2nd Avenue & S Bayshore Blvd. They conducted an enforcement stop and contacted Oakland residents Estrada and Amador. Due to one of the men being on criminal probation for robbery, a search of the vehicle revealed a significant amount of stolen property and burglary tools. Estrada and Amador were arrested and interviewed by detectives for their crimes. They were subsequently transported to San Mateo County Jail and booked on multiple charges.

Law enforcement is solving more crimes thanks to surveillance cameras and license plate reader systems. Our officers regularly canvass for surveillance and you can help us by notifying SMPD at www.cityofsanmateo.org/Nest. Partnerships with our active neighborhood watch, social media platforms, and surveillance technologies, the San Mateo Police Department can identify criminals and make San Mateo an unfriendly place for thieves.
