Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department were part of a coordinated effort with the New Castle County Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the United States Marshals Service, and the National Crime Gun Intelligence Center that resulted in the arrest of a 15-year-old Edgemoor juvenile in connection with a December 28 shooting in Wilmington.

On Friday, December 28, at approximately 8:12 p.m., Wilmington Police officers were in the 600 block of West 7^th Street handling a call for service. A vehicle subsequently entered the block, and an occupant discharged a firearm in close proximity to the officers. The officers, who were not injured, were able to take cover behind parked vehicles, and they assisted members of the community in taking cover as well.

Officers subsequently located two shooting victims at the scene – a 20-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were both struck by gunfire. They were treated on scene and were transported to a hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

On January 3, Wilmington Police and New Castle County Police detectives jointly executed several search warrants. While they were executing a search warrant in the 100 block of Franklin Avenue, a 15-year-old suspect attempted to flee the residence but was quickly taken into police custody without further incident.

The juvenile suspect has since been charged with the following felony offenses:

• Assault First Degree (Two Counts)
• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• Possession of a Firearm by Prohibited Juvenile
• Reckless Endangering First Degree (Two Counts)
• Conspiracy First Degree

He was arraigned and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $200,000 cash-only bail.

Tracy. “Crime does not always respect jurisdictional boundaries, underscoring the importance of these collaborations, and our close communication with our partners in the region.”
