Advisory

New telephone clone phone scam. FYI GPFDPS will never call and demand payment for warrants. See message:

The Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety would like to warn residents and business owners of a new telephone scam. Over the last few days we have received calls from residents stating they had received a telephone call from someone posing as an IRS agent and that a warrant was issued for their arrest unless payment was made immediately. What has made this scam interesting is that the scammer (person calling) has cloned the departments telephone number. Persons receiving calls will show on their caller ID (313)-885-2100 which is the telephone number to our station. This could possibly help the scammer make their call seem more valid to potential victims.

Residents and business owners should know that the public safety department will never call and demand payment for warrants. This scam seems to be occurring nationwide. The IRS recommends the following actions if you receive a call from someone who claims to be from the IRS: If you think or know that you owe taxes, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and IRS employees can help you resolve a payment issue (if one even exists).
