Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Shirley last night.
Thomas Cortijo was crossing the roadway in front of 100 Brushwood Drive when he was struck by 2000 Mercedes Benz sedan at approximately 8:20 p.m.
Cortijo, 42, of Mastic, was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes, Thomas Jerome, 38, of Shirley, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
