Advisory

Wind Chill Advisory until 12:00PM Friday

Snow continued to fall and lead to difficult travel across much of the area during the early afternoon hours. However, the back edge of the heaviest snow was working northeastward across northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota and is expected to exit the area by late afternoon or early evening. Behind this, some light snow will continue to fall and wind gusts in the 30 to 40 mph range will lead to some blowing and drifting snow, especially in unsheltered areas. Travel will remain difficult into this evening, including during the commute. Plan ahead, take it slow, and allow plenty of time to reach your destination. After the snow comes to an end, bitterly cold air will work from west to east across the area, with wind chill values generally in the 20 to 30 below zero range area-wide through tomorrow morning. If you must be outside, be sure to dress warm and cover any exposed skin.

* WHAT...Snow, heavy at times. Very cold wind chills expected. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Wind chills as low as 30 below zero expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central and west central Wisconsin.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until midnight CST tonight. For the Wind Chill Advisory, from 3 AM to noon CST Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

* AFFECTED AREAS: JUNEAU ... LA CROSSE ... BUFFALO ... ADAMS ... TREMPEALEAU ... MONROE ... JACKSON

Instructions:

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible. A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves. The latest road conditions for Iowa can be found on-line at 511ia.org, in Minnesota at 511mn.org, and in Wisconsin at 511wi.gov or by calling 5 1 1.
