Flood Advisory until 11:15AM

The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Poor Drainage Areas for... Madison County in southwestern Illinois... St. Clair County in southwestern Illinois... St. Louis City in east central Missouri... St. Charles County in east central Missouri... St. Louis County in east central Missouri...

* Until 1115 AM CST Thursday.

* At 514 AM CST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... St. Louis, St. Charles, St. Peters, Florissant, Chesterfield, Belleville, Wildwood, University City, Ballwin, Granite City, Wentzville, O'Fallon, Alton, Kirkwood, Maryland Heights, East St. Louis, Hazelwood, Collinsville, Edwardsville and Webster Groves. Additional rainfall of around an inch is expected over the area this morning. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. This includes the following highways... Interstate 70 in Illinois between exits 21 and 30. Interstate 55 in Illinois between exits 23 and 37. Interstate 64 in Illinois between exits 9 and 27. Interstate 44 in Missouri between exits 261 and 277. Interstate 70 in Missouri between exits 208 and 231. This also includes Babler Memorial State Park, Scott Joplin Historic Site, Route 66 State Park, Castlewood State Park, Confluence State Park, First Missouri State Capitol Historic Site, and Horseshoe Lake State Park.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MADISON, IL ... ST. CLAIR, IL ... ST. LOUIS CITY, MO ... ST. CHARLES, MO ... ST. LOUIS, MO

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
