Press Release: Former Police Officer Charged with Filing a False Police Report

DATE: February 4, 2019
CASE #: 19-008-084
SUSPECT #1: Victor Madarang, 24-year-old, Stockton Resident

Today, former Milpitas Police Officer Victor Madarang self-surrendered on a ten thousand dollar ($10,000) arrest warrant for a felony charge of filing a false police report. Madarang was sworn in as a police officer for the City of Milpitas on July 12, 2018 and his last day of employment was January 8, 2019.

Following inconsistencies of an incident that occurred in December 2018, where an account of an event on a filed police report did not corroborate with minor damage to a marked police vehicle, the Milpitas Police Department submitted the investigation to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, per standard procedure. Upon their impartial review, the District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Madarang for a single violation of California Penal Code 118.1- Filing a false police report.

The Milpitas Police Department would like the community to know the organization looked into this matter promptly. Earning and maintaining the community’s trust is a cornerstone of effective policing. We remain committed to holding ourselves to the highest standards and working with our community to provide professional and responsive services. We thank you for entrusting us to serve you on a daily basis.

Inquiries about the criminal filing should be referred to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
