Cases of Community Interest

Below are some cases that have occurred over the past few days that may be of interest.
 
Grand Theft Case #19-05084
On January 29th at 5:28 pm, a man was waiting at a bus stop on the corner of Shattuck Avenue and Woolsey Street with his backpack on the ground next to him (containing his laptop).  While there, a suspect ran up to the man and grabbed his backpack.  The suspect then ran to nearby vehicle and drove away.  With the description of the suspect’s vehicle that witnesses provided, Albany PD officers spotted the vehicle driving in the area of Marin Avenue and Santa Fe Avenue.  After being notified by Albany PD, BPD officers investigated the three detained suspects further and subsequently arrested them on suspicion of conspiracy, possession of stolen property and grand theft.  The victim’s stolen laptop was found inside the suspect’s vehicle.

Robbery        Case #19-05226
On January 30th at 11:50 am, a man was standing on the 1800 block of 62nd Street when he noticed that a suspect was inside his nearby parked vehicle (rummaging through the back seat).  When the man yelled at the suspect, the suspect pointed a gun at him.  The man ran away and the suspect chased after him.  While trying to get away, the man tripped and fell down.  Now on the ground, the suspect pointed a gun at the man and threatened him.  The suspect then walked back to the man’s truck and took some items from inside.  The suspect then got into another nearby vehicle (determined to have been previously stolen) and drove away.  Witnesses described the suspect as a Black male, in his 30’s, about 5’10” tall, wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.
 
Robbery        Case #19-05539
On January 31st at 7:49 pm, a man was standing in front of his home on the 3100 block of Ellis Street when he was approached by two male suspects.  One of the suspects pulled out a gun and demanded that the man give them his property.  The man complied and the suspects left the area.  Witnesses described one of the suspects as Black, with light skin, 18-19 years old, 5’9” to 5’11”, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants.
 
Grand Theft Case 19-05644
On February 1st at Noon, two suspects entered Philz Coffee (1313 Ninth Street) and took laptops from two women who were using their laptops inside. After taking the laptops, the suspects ran out of the store and got into a vehicle that was double-parked on the street.   Witnesses described the suspects as Hispanic men, in their 20’s, 5’7” to 5’10” tall, with one of the suspects wearing black pants and a black & white jacket.  Witnesses described the second suspect as wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and sweatpants.
 
Robbery        Case #19-05925
On February 2nd at 6:40 pm, a woman was walking on Sacramento Street (between Virginia Street and Cedar Street) when she was approached by three male suspects.  After one of the suspects grabbed the woman’s cell phone from her hand, the group ran away.  Based on the descriptions that witnesses provided of the suspects, officers located two of them (a 14 and 15 year old from Richmond) in the area of Holly Street and Buena Avenue.  The third suspect (a 15 year old from Richmond) was located near Ohlone Park.  Officers arrested the trio for suspicion of robbery and possession of stolen property.
 
Robbery        Case #19-06233
On February 4th at 10:10 am, a woman was using the ATM outside of Chase Bank (2150 Shattuck Avenue) when a suspect approached her.  Once the bills were dispensed from the ATM, the suspect told the woman that she had a gun and demanded that the woman give her the money.  The suspect then walked away.  Witnesses described the suspect as a White female, about 50-55 years old, about 5’4” to 5’5” tall, with a heavy build, wearing a maroon or burgundy jacket.
