Fugitive captured after foot chase; second suspect charged in vehicle pursuit
The hunt for a kidnapping and assault fugitive ended when deputies received a Crime Stoppers tip Saturday, Feb. 2 that led to the suspect, as well as vehicle and foot pursuits.
Deputy Jordon Frisbee of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Christopher Lee Cannon, 41, address listed as Sugar Hill Road in Marion, with resisting a public officer. Cannon was also charged with outstanding warrants for second-degree kidnapping and assault inflicting serious injury, as well as two probation violations.
Deputy Seth Leopold of the Sheriff’s Office charged Michael Bradley Dalton, 38, address listed as Hawkins Road in Marion, with failure to heed a blue light and siren and possession of marijuana.
At 9:12 p.m. on Feb. 2, Frisbee and Leopold were in the area of U.S. 221 South in search of a white Toyota FJ occupied by Cannon, who had been on the run from the kidnapping and assault charges. The deputies had received a tip that Cannon would be in that vehicle in the vicinity of Super 8 Motel.
Leopold spotted and attempted to stop the Toyota, but the vehicle continued traveling north on U.S. 221 to the McDowell County Industrial Park to Alfredo Baglioni Drive.
At that time, the passenger, identified as Cannon, jumped and ran from the FJ. Frisbee chased him on foot down a bank and into a creek and culvert before apprehending him.
The driver, identified as Dalton, was in possession of .30 gram of marijuana.
