DATE/TIME: February 3, 2019 / 2:20am
INCIDENT: Water Rescue
LOCATION: Mojave Riverbed, near 6th and E Streets, Victorville
VICTIM: Tina Sanders, 52-year old Victorville resident
SUMMARY:
On February 3, 2019, deputies from the Victorville Police Department were requested to respond to the Mojave River, near 6th and E Streets, for a woman stranded in swift moving water.
Upon arrival, deputies located Tina Sanders, in waist-high water, holding onto branches to avoid being swept away. Water rescue ropes were thrown to Sanders, and she was instructed to secure the ropes around her waist. With the assistance of the deputies, Sanders was able to cross the water and make it safely to the river’s edge. Fire and American Medical Response crews arrived and assessed Sanders at the scene. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
The public should use caution as we experience winter rain storms. The usually dry Mojave River bed and local storm drains can swell quickly with rapid moving water, leaving very little time to move to higher ground. Please avoid these areas when possible.
