Early this afternoon, Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of human remains that were found by a resident in a marsh area near Ladys Island Airport. When deputies arrived, they observed the partially skeletonized remains of what appears to be an adult male. Beaufort County Coroner Edward Allen responded to the scene and removed the remains, after the area was examined for evidence by deputies.

Due to the condition of the remains, what caused the man's death was not immediately apparent. A forensic autopsy scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina this week should aid in the determination of the cause and manner of the man's death, as well as his identity. Additional information will be released when available.
