On February 3, 2019, at approximately 5:19 AM, Simi Valley Police Department units were dispatched to the area of the Simi Valley Civic Center, which is located at 2929 Tapo Canyon Road, in reference to stabbing that had just occurred. The victim, a local transient, advised that he had been stabbed by a known suspect who had last been seen on the City Hall campus. The suspect was described as a black male adult in a wheel chair who was armed with a knife. Upon searching the area for the suspect, a crime scene was located directly to the front of City Hall. The suspect, identified as Roger Alan Autman, 61 years of age, was also located and taken into custody, along with the weapon used in the incident.

It appears based on the initial investigation that the stabbing was a result of a verbal dispute between the two homeless subjects who were sleeping on the City Hall grounds. The victim had a moderate wound to his hand and was transported to a local hospital. While the suspect was being transported to a local hospital for a booking clearance he attempted to spit on medical staff which resulted in additional charges. The suspect was booked at Ventura County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Battery on Medical Personnel and several Out of County Warrants. VCSD is clear to release a booking photo of the suspect.
