Synopsis: A 25 year old male suspect was driving his car in a reckless manner in a business parking lot. A 40 year old male (Victim #1) and a 41 year old male (Victim #2) were walking in the parking lot and almost got hit by the suspect. At some point the suspect got out of his car with a machete and started to swing it at the victims. Victim #1 was struck in the forehead by the machete and sustained a non life threatening cut. Victim #2 was struck on the nose and sustained a minor cut. The victims were able to hold the suspect down until police arrived. 25 year old Ian Smigels was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and DUI. Victim #1 was transported to the hospital and Victim #2 declined to go to the hospital. San Diego Police Western Division Detectives are investigating.
