Second Homicide Suspect Arrested

Santa Rosa Police Detectives worked throughout the night investigating the homicide of a 50-year-old male who was found deceased in the 900 block of Piner Road.  Based on the statements from witnesses and involved parties, the detectives discovered that a second suspect actively assaulted the victim.  The suspect was identified as Solomon Asgedom Fret.  Fret is a 55-year-old homeless male from Santa Rosa.  (See attached photograph)

The initial investigation shows that the two suspects, William Amons and Solomon Fret, confronted the victim in a dispute over a bicycle.  All three subjects are homeless and live in the area where the homicide occurred.  The group associates with several vehicles which were parked to the rear of a business located in the 900 block of Piner Road as well as several tents located along the Russell Creek path in the area.  Amons occasionally stays with family members in Santa Rosa and San Francisco.

Amons and Fret grabbed blunt objects and repeatedly struck the victim in the upper body with the weapons.  The victim had visible injuries as a result of the assault.  The victim fell to the ground, and both suspects fled the area.  The victim died at the scene.

Santa Rosa Police Officers patrolling the area located both Amons and Fret in the 1700 block of Piner Road near a cluster of homeless encampments.  Both Amons and Fret were arrested for 187 PC—(Homicide) and booked in the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility.

The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office is actively working to notify the victim’s family of his death, and they will release the victim’s name once the notification has been completed.
