Deputies conduct a high-risk traffic stop and arrest the driver of a stolen vehicle

LOCATION: 9th Street & Palm Avenue, Highland
SUSPECT: Yair Gutierrez-Lopez, 28 years old, San Bernardino resident
SUMMARY:
On Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 3:25 p.m., Deputy Wagner from the Highland Police Department responded to the area of 9th Street and Sterling Avenue to search the area for a stolen 1997 Honda Accord sedan. The vehicle was reported stolen to the Colton Police Department on January 30, 2019. There was no suspect information at the time of the theft.
Deputy Wagner located the stolen Honda traveling northbound on Palm Avenue from 9th Street. He followed it until other deputies arrived in the area. The driver, Yair Gutierrez-Lopez, turned onto 11th Street and stopped in front of a residence in the 27000 block of 11th Street. A high-risk traffic stop was made on the vehicle and Gutierrez-Lopez was arrested without incident. The vehicle’s owner was contacted and responded to the scene to pick up the vehicle.
Gutierrez-Lopez was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center. He faces charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. His bail is set at $50,000 and he is scheduled for arraignment on February 4th in Superior Court in San Bernardino.
