...BLACK ICE CONDITIONS DEVELOPING ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
APPALACHIANS TO PERSIST INTO WEDNESDAY...
Freezing temperatures have spilled into the region behind a
passing cold front, and temperatures will continue to fall rapidly
through tonight. The arrival of the cold air will combine with
moist conditions on the ground from recent rain and snowfall to
produce black ice conditions on many mountain roadways.
Temperatures may not rise above freezing across much of the
mountains on Wednesday and black ice conditions could persist.
Use extreme caution if traveling across the mountains of western
North Carolina, or Rabun County in northeast Georgia, tonight
through Wednesday. Many roadways could be ice covered and
treacherous.
