Police Recover Pickup Stolen While Left Running

South Brunswick Police locate and arrest suspect who stole a running pickup truck from a North Brunswick gas station. At 5:15pm Sunday evening South Brunswick Officer Jamal Benbow was notified that a white Toyota pickup truck had just been stolen out of a gas station on Route 27 in North Brunswick. Officer Benbow searched the area and at 5:45pm he spotted the stolen truck in the Royal Oaks Apartment complex off Route 1. Officer Benbow along with Officer Brian Luck, Officer George Morgan, Sergeant Richard Schwarz and Sergeant Dennis Yuhasz conducted a high risk car stop and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was identified as Brion Bey age 23 of South Brunswick. In addition to recovering the stolen vehicle, police found 7 hypodermic syringes and a heroin fold in the pickup.

Bey was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was lodged at the Middlesex County Correction Center pending his first court appearance.

Chief Raymond Hayducka said, “The officers did an excellent job recovering this pickup truck in less than 45 minutes from when it was stolen. The recovery was a direct result of great communication and teamwork between North Brunswick and South Brunswick police.”

The case highlights the need for drivers not to leave their vehicles running even as the temperatures continue to fall.  The driver stopped for only a few seconds to buy something and he left his car running. The suspect was waiting and took off with his pickup. We know it’s inviting to make sure a car is warm while you run a quick errand or before leaving home or work, but PLEASE don’t leave the vehicle running unattended.
