Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Deer Park today.

Brendan Coolbaugh was riding a 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Bay Shore Road when his motorcycle collided with a 2011 Mazda CX 9 traveling southbound on Bay Shore Road and turning left into a gas station at approximately 5 p.m.

Coolbaugh, 24, of 1088 Udall Road, Bay Shore, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Mazda, Janiece Wimbush, 32, of 20 North 11^th St., Wyandanch, and her five minor children, ranging in age from 4-months to 12-years-old, were driven by a family member to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for evaluation.  

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
