Deputies from the Apple Valley Police Dept's Major Accident Inv. Team are investigating a fatal traffic collision

LOCATION: State Highway 18 west of Apple Valley Road
SUSPECT(S): Unknown
VICTIM: Female withheld pending family notification
SUMMARY: On Sunday, January 27, 2019, at approximately 4:40 am, the driver of an AMR ambulance observed a female lying in the eastbound lanes of State Highway 18, west of Apple Valley Road. The female was unresponsive and appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Medical personnel performed life saving measures and transported the female to St. Mary's Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded and conducted the investigation. It is believed the victim was struck by an unknown vehicle which fled the scene without rendering aid or calling for emergency services. Eastbound lanes of State Highway 18, from Stoddard Wells to Apple Valley Road, were closed for approximately three hours while deputies conducted the investigation.
The collision is currently under investigation by the Apple Valley Police Department, and deputies are seeking additional witnesses.
