*UPDATE* #LASD Norwalk Detectives Have Arrested an Adult Male in Connection with Mother Accidentally Shot by Child

UPDATE

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Norwalk Station detectives continue to investigate the incident regarding a mother who was accidentally shot by her child.

The mother is currently listed in stable condition and expected to survive.
 
Detectives have arrested 24-year-old Brandon Ambriz from Norwalk.  He was booked at the Norwalk Sheriff’s station for Possession of a Firearm, Child Endangerment and is held with a no bail warrant for his parole violation.
 
All four children are currently in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services. 
 
The investigation is ongoing, and there is no additional information available at this time.

ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE

A child sitting in the backseat of a four-door sedan accidentally shot his mother with a shotgun, critically injuring her as she sat in the driver’s seat.

On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at approximately 3:30pm, Norwalk Station deputies responded to the 14600 block of Dinard Street regarding a “rescue responding, assault with a deadly weapon, gunshot victim” call.

Upon their arrival, deputies located the female Hispanic adult and resident of Norwalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the mid torso. The female was transported to a local hospital where her condition has been upgraded to fair.

Preliminary information gathered at the scene revealed that the female’s three children were in the backseat of the vehicle when one of the children accessed an unsecured shotgun and shot her through the back of the seat.

The three children in the backseat, another female adult and young child who sat in the front passenger seat were not injured.

The weapon was recovered.

All four children are currently in the custody of Department of Children and Family Services.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind you that, “If It’s Not Secure, It’s Not Safe.”
