INCIDENT: Felony Child Abuse / Child Endangerment

LOCATION: 7400 Block of Elm Street, Highland

SUSPECT: Aujanee Denise Harrison, age 21, Highland resident

VICTIM: Confidential

SUMMARY:

On Wednesday, January 23, 11:00 am, Deputy Olivas from the Highland Police Department responded to the St. Bernardine Medical Center after the medical staff reported they were treating a 2-year old child for injuries possibly caused from abuse. The child’s mother, Aujanee Harrison, was the possible suspect.

Deputy Olivas contacted the childs mother and the child at the hospital. During the investigation, it was discovered the victim was severely beaten with a belt and other unknown objects. There was visible bruising, lacerations and swelling to the child’s face and body. The suspect admitted to using a belt to discipline the child several times a week over the past six months. Several wounds left severe scarring to the child’s lower extremities.

A Social Worker from Children’s Family Services responded to the hospital to assist with the investigation. The child was removed from the mother and placed into protective custody. Harrison was arrested without incident and later booked into the West Valley Detention Center. She faces charges of Felony Child Abuse and Child Endangerment. Her bail is set at $50,000 and she is scheduled for arraignment on January 25th in Superior Court in San Bernardino.
