Advisory

Deputies arrest an Ontario man linked to at least five late-night window-smash burglaries

DATE: January 18, 2019

INCIDENT: PC459- Burglary

LOCATION: Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT: Jerry Baca, 48-years-old from Ontario

SUMMARY:

In December 2018, an unknown male committed multiple late-night window-smash burglaries at various restaurants in the City of Rancho Cucamonga. In most of the burglaries, cash was stolen from the register. During one of these burglaries, a distinct necklace belonging to an employee was taken. Video surveillance captured the burglaries from the inside of the businesses. Deputy Ryan Weddel, assigned to the Rancho Cucamonga Detective Bureau, noticed the string of burglaries and began to investigate. Deputy Weddel sent out an “Attempt to Identify” flyer to surrounding agencies. Claremont Police Department responded to the flyer and informed Deputy Weddel they had similar burglaries with the same suspect. They had obtained a possible make and model of the vehicle involved. Over the course of two weeks, Deputy Weddel coordinated the investigation with Claremont Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. The vehicle was determined to be owned by Jerry Baca of Ontario. Deputy Weddel located Baca’s vehicle at a motel in Ontario. While conducting a parole check of Baca’s room on Friday, January 18, 2019, Deputy Weddel located the necklace stolen in the previous burglary.

Baca was positively linked to at least five burglaries in Rancho Cucamonga. It is believed he may be responsible for additional burglaries in other cities. Baca was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
