Deputies & the Special Enforcement Detail arrest two suspects in weekend shooting that injured several people

DATE/TIME: January 19, 2019 / 11:04pm

INCIDENT: Attempted Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition

LOCATION: 15500 block Nisqualli Road, Victorville

SUSPECT(S): La Royal Brumfield, 29-year old Victorville resident
La Jamaal Brumfield, 37-year old Victorville resident

VICTIM(S): Confidential


SUMMARY: On January 19, 2019, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired, in the 15500 block of Nisqualli Road.

The suspect, La Royal Brumfield, was attending a party at the location with his brother, La Jamaal Brumfield. La Royal became intoxicated and argued with other party guests, leading to him being asked to leave. La Royal physically assaulted a female and left the location, threatening to shoot and kill everyone at the party. A short time later La Royal returned to the location and began shooting. One person was shot in the leg and transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment. Four others were grazed by bullets and treated. La Royal fled the scene prior to deputies arriving.

With the assistance of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s, Specialized Enforcement Division, deputies served a search warrant at the home of La Jamaal Brumfield, in the 15000 block of Brown Lane. During the service of the search warrant, several firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition were discovered. La Jamaal, a convicted felon, was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for felon in possession of a firearm and prohibited person in possession of ammunition.

Through further investigation and the continued assistance of the Specialized Enforcement Division, La Royal was located traveling near Cedar City, Utah and was taken into custody by Utah State Troopers. He is currently being held at Iron County Jail awaiting extradition back to California on attempted murder charges.
