SUMMARY:
On Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 10:09 a.m. a deputy from the Highland Sheriff's station observed a stolen white pick-up truck near the intersection of Baseline Street and Palm Avenue in the city of Highland. The driver, 22-year-old Jose Urbina, fled in the vehicle and led deputies in a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, an adult female passenger was ejected from the vehicle as Urbina continued to drive erratically. During the pursuit, deputies received information that a five-month-old child was still inside of the vehicle.
Urbina drove into a mobile home park in the 7700 block of Church Ave. in the city of Highland. While driving in the mobile home park, Urbina removed the child from its car seat and continued driving. Shortly after removing the child from its car seat, Urbina stopped the vehicle and ran from deputies with the child in his arms. Deputies were able to catch Urbina and Urbina eventually handed the child to a deputy.
Urbina was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center for Child Endangerment, Felony Evading and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. The female passenger suffered minor injuries and the child was not harmed.
