Man Suspected of Pointing Handgun at Law Enforcement Officer
Police arrested a man suspected of pointing a handgun at a federal law enforcement officer on Wednesday afternoon.
Vincent Medina, 28, is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charge is a fourth-degree felony count.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, a federal law enforcement officer in an unmarked unit was in the area of Pecos Street and Idaho Avenue when he noticed Medina, with his face concealed with a black bandana, acting suspiciously and walking through an apartment complex.
As the officer drove south on Pecos Street, Medina pulled a silver handgun from his right front pocket and pointed it at the officer.
The officer called for backup and made a U-turn. Officers located Medina near a trash dumpster where he was detained. The handgun was located in Medina’s waistband. The gun turned out to be a BB gun that could easily be mistaken for a high-caliber handgun.
Medina was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
