Advisory

Snow Thursdsy Night into Friday, Significant Storm over the Weekend

A. Accumulating snow Thursday night into Friday morning for much of the area

  - Snow will overspread much of the area Thursday evening and continue into Friday morning, then ends by late Friday morning. The snow should mix with rain and even change to all rain across much of eastern Maryland, Delaware and southeastern New Jersey. The precipitation intensity is anticipated to be on the lighter side. See expected snowfall total map attached.

  Here are the key messages:

The Friday morning commute will likely have a higher impact due to potentially hazardous travel conditions. The highest snowfall amounts (2-3 inches) will occur mainly from the I-78 corridor northward, with localized totals possibly reaching 4 inches in the higher elevations of the Poconos to Sussex County (NJ). Along the I-95 corridor, around 1-2 inches of snow is expected. It is possible that snow may mix with rain, which may lower snowfall totals in some areas. South and east of the I-95 corridor, some light snow should mix with and change to some rain with limited snow accumulations.

B. Significant winter storm over the weekend

  - A storm tracks across our region Saturday night and Sunday. There is considerable uncertainty regarding the precipitation types. Parts of the region could have significant amounts of snow and/or ice, with other areas experiencing heavy rain. The track of the storm will be key in determining the precipitation types and amounts across our area.

  - Arctic air rapidly overspreads the region later Sunday, and this may result in a flash freeze of wet surfaces.
