Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of 1-6-19 through 1-12-19


Dear Duarte Community;

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of 01-06-19 to 01-12-19
 
 
January 06, 2019

  • A Strong-Arm Robbery was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  Store security observed an adult male concealing store items in a plastic Target bag and walking out the front doors without paying. When confronted, the suspect became uncooperative and refused to return to the store.  When security attempted to reclaim the stolen property, a struggle ensued and the suspect used physical force to take control of the stolen items and flee through the parking lot on a skateboard.  The loss was estimated at approximately $375.   
 
January 07, 2019
  • A Residential Burglary was reported in the 2300 block of Golden Meadow Drive. Sometime between December 30, 2018 and January 7, 2019, person’s unknown entered the victim’s residence through a bedroom window and ransacked the house.  Jewelry, clothing and cash were stolen.  The loss was estimated at approximately $12,000.  
 
January 08, 2019
  • Due to community complaints regarding transients loitering around businesses in the 1400 block of Huntington Drive, deputies contacted an adult female who was laying on a mattress behind a closed business.  During the investigation, the female was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia, and arrested.  
 
January 09, 2019
  • No significant activity.
 
January 10, 2019
  • An Aggravated Assault occurred at 2705 Huntington Drive (7-Eleven).  While conducting a patrol check of the business due to recent complaints of transients bothering customers, deputies contacted an adult male with a pit bull by the front entrance.  Deputies observed that several customers appeared to feel uncomfortable to enter the store because of the male and his dog.         
 
When Deputies attempted to explain to the male he was making customers feel uncomfortable, he became uncooperative and refused to leave.  While explaining he could be arrested for trespassing if he did not leave, the suspect became even more agitated.  As the deputies were attempting to detain him for trespassing, an altercation ensued. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody.  After further investigation, it was determined the male was on felony probation for assault on a peace officer and had been asked several times by the employees to leave prior to the deputies arrival.      
 
 
January 11, 2019
  • A Petty Theft was reported in the 1800 block of Delford Avenue.  Sometime between 12:20 am and 2:20 pm, the catalytic converter to a 2006 Toyota Prius was stolen from the vehicle while it was parked on the street. 
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  An adult male from Los Angeles was observed by store security taking toys from various display stands and placing them in a brown paper bag.  When he exited the store without paying, he was detained by security.  After further investigation by responding deputies, the suspect was arrested for petty theft.  During the booking process, it was determined he had a credit card in his possession in which he could have paid for the items.   
 
January 12, 2018
  • A Grand Theft was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart Parking Lot). On 01-08-19, the victim’s purse which contained an I-phone, several electronic devices and an unloaded handgun, was stolen from the victim’s vehicle while she was shopping.  There were n signs of forced entry to the vehicle. The loss was estimated at over $5,000. 
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  An adult male from Van Nuys was detained by store security after he was observed concealing two bottles of Vodka, two bike locks and a pack of batteries, then walking out without paying.  After further investigation by responding deputies, the male admitted to taking the items because he only had $20.
