On Saturday, January 12, 2019 at approximately 6:00 PM, a male Hispanic adult was the victim of a carjacking in the city of Compton. The victim was forced out of his vehicle at gunpoint near the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Matthisen Avenue by a male white adult and a female white adult.
On Monday, January 14, 2019 at approximately 10:43 AM, deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s station located the victim’s stolen silver Kia sedan in the area of Rosecrans Avenue and Wilmington Avenue in the city of Compton. The deputies attempted a traffic stop of the stolen vehicle at which time the driver failed to yield and attempted to evade deputies. The driver led deputies on a pursuit throughout various freeways and streets in the South Los Angeles area. The pursuit included support from the LASD Aero Bureau and officers from the California Highway Patrol. The incident was broadcast on live local television by several media outlets. At approximately 11:40 AM, the driver and sole occupant stopped and exited the vehicle in the area of Western Avenue and 98th Street in Los Angeles. The suspect complied with verbal commands and was taken into custody without incident.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Valerie Fua, a 36 year old resident of Compton. She was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and evading a pursuing police officer. Her bail is set at $75,000.
No firearm was recovered at this time, and there is no booking photo available. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.
