Advisory

NWS issued a flood advisory for the Malibu area through 9:30 AM, Mon Jan. 14.

The National Weather Service in OXNARD has issued a flood advisory for Malibu through 9:30 AM Monday, Jan. 14.

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
  Ventura County in southwestern California...
western Los Angeles County in southwestern California...

* Until 930 AM PST.

* At 632 AM PST, National Weather Service Doppler radar and
automated rain gauges indicated moderate rain occurring across
most of Ventura County and western Los Angeles County. Rainfall
rates between 0.10 and 0.25 inch per hour are being observed. This
will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area.

* Roadway flooding can be expected across the advisory area. In
addition, the brief heavy downpours could trigger
rockslides/mudslides as well as shallow debris flows in the
recent burn area, especially near steep terrain.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Oxnard...Thousand Oaks...Simi Valley...Ventura...Camarillo...
  Fillmore...Malibu...Ojai...Encino...Inglewood...Manhattan Beach...
  Agoura Hills...Venice...Rancho Palos Verdes...Hollywood...
  Van Nuys...Culver City...Torrance...Universal City...
and the Hill...Woolsey...South and Stone burn areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Move away from recently burned areas. Minor flooding of creeks, roads
and normally dry arroyos is likely. The rain will likely trigger
shallow mud and debris flows, minor rock falls, and flooding capable
of localized damage, especially in steep terrain near burn scars.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
