UPDATE (1/13/19, 7:30 PM) The upcoming storm is now expected to impact Malibu Monday afternoon, later than was forecast.
The storm is now expected to bring mainly light rain to areas from Ventura County westward by late this evening. Light to moderate rain is expected to reach the Thomas Fire burn area early Monday morning, with moderate to locally heavy rates possible Monday afternoon. During the afternoon, moderate rain will spread eastward to Los Angeles County on Monday, including the Woolsey Fire burn area. The rain will slowly shift toward eastern L.A. County Monday evening and night.
Light rain will continue late Monday night into Tuesday, but rain will increase some during the day on Tuesday. Then from Tuesday night through Wednesday, mainly light rain will continue across SW California.
Prepare for potential flooding, mudslides, debris flows, power outages, dangerous road conditions and possible evacuations.
The series of storms impacting Malibu continues Sunday night, Jan. 13, into Monday, and through Thursday, Jan. 17, bringing heavy rain and the possibility of mud and debris flows at the base of canyons and ravines, especially in the Woolsey Fire burn area. There is a chance of thunderstorms, especially in coastal areas, which can increase rainfall rates. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches, which could present road hazards and power outages. There is also a high surf advisory, with a risk of dangerous rip currents, coastal erosion and storm and fire debris in coastal waters, and a water quality advisory due to storm runoff.
