IMPD Southeast District Flex Team makes arrest, recovers multiple firearms possessed by serious violent felon

INCIDENT TYPE: IMPD Southeast District Gun Arrest

INCIDENT LOCATION: 1426 Hoefgen Street

COMMUNITY MESSAGE: INDIANAPOLIS – On January 10, 2019, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Southeast District Flex Team executed a search warrant at 1426 Hoefgen Street after receiving information that a wanted subject was at the location and was in possession of firearms.

Officers confirmed that 31-year-old Michael Adams was wanted on a local warrant for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.  Surveillance was conducted of the residence in question, and a short time later, Mr. Adams was seen exiting the garage and walking into a rear door of the residence.  After confirming Mr. Adams was inside, MSE FLEX Team Officers approached the residence and took Mr. Adams into custody without incident. During the investigation, consent was obtained by the homeowner to search the garage. Officers located:

- 1 AR style Mossberg .22 caliber rifle
- 2 handguns
- Ammunition for the riffle and handguns

Other evidence was recovered in the garage that linked the firearms to Michael Adams. All evidence was recovered and processed by a firearms liaison, and was submitted to the IMPD property room.  Michael Adams was arrested and transported to Lock Up by Marion County Sheriff’s Office for the outstanding warrant and for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

IMPD recovered more than 3,000 illegally-possessed firearms last year as part of the City's violence reduction strategy. IMPD returned to community-based beat policing last April, allowing officers to build stronger partnerships with the community, and ended 2018 with a 64% clearance rate, a more than 20% improvement over the previous year.

Formal charging decisions will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.  A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

IMPD continues to urge anyone with information on criminal activity to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.8477 or (TIPS). Citizens can also download the mobile P3tips app for Apple or Android phones to submit a mobile tip, or go to www.CrimeTips.org to submit a web tip. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000 if the information leads to a felony arrest.  Only tips submitted directly and anonymously to Crime Stoppers are eligible for these cash rewards. Information given via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
