Advisory

MODERATE RAIN EXPECTED IN DUARTE THROUGH THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK; CITY TO REMAIN AT GREEN ALERT LEVEL

Dear Duarte Community;

Rain is expected to continue across southwest California, with multiple storms starting later today and into the middle of next week. Early indications show rainfall amounts in Duarte proper occurring at levels where zero to mild mud run-off may occur in the Fish Fire Impact area.  Based on this information, the City is currently at and plans to remain at the Green Level through the storm both this weekend and next week.

The next storm system will arrive late Friday into Saturday bringing widespread rain to the area with the potential for rain rates at or above 0.50 inch/hour, which could generate shallow mud and debris flows near recent burn scars. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy downpours will be possible with this system, but not likely in Duarte.

There will be a break in the rainy conditions later Saturday into Sunday, then the next system will arrive by Monday. Significant rainfall is possible with this storm Monday and Tuesday.  A weaker system may move over the area on Wednesday followed by another stronger system Thursday. Rainfall amounts are very uncertain at this point with these events but not predicted to be heavy in Duarte.

Gusty south to southeast winds will be possible with each storm, especially Saturday and again Tuesday of next week.

Sandbag Information
Residents are always encouraged to assess their property for potential areas for mud and debris flow and determine proper sand bag needs. Unfilled sandbags and sand are also available at the Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 44, located at 1105 Highland Avenue in the rear area 24/7. Residents are advised to be prepared with the proper equipment to fill and transport filled sandbags to their respective private property.
