Drug Arrest
Location: Montague Expressway and Mission College Boulevard
An officer conducted a registration check on a vehicle and learned it was expired. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Montague Expressway and Mission College Boulevard. The officer contacted the occupants of the vehicle, a male driver and female passenger. A Records check revealed the driver had three active grants of searchable probation. A search of the vehicle yielded a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. The passenger took responsibility for the contraband. She was arrested.

Monday, December 31, 2018
Felony Arrest
Location: El Camino Real and Lawrence Expressway
An officer was conducting a routine patrol through a motel parking lot on El Camino Real. The officer conducted a registration check on a vehicle leaving the parking lot and learned the owner of the vehicle had a suspended driver’s license and was on probation with search terms. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on El Camino Real near Flora Vista Avenue. A probation search of the suspect and his vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia, two baggies of a controlled substance, two live ammunition cartridges and personal identifying information for approximately ten individuals. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Tuesday, January 1, 2019
Drunk in Public
Location: 1600 Block of Santa Clara Street
Public Safety Dispatchers received a call from a resident on the 1600 block of Santa Clara Street regarding a male subject exhibiting signs of alcohol intoxication knocking on the doors of residences. Officers made contact with the subject in front of a residence. It was determined the subject was unable to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Warrant Arrest
Location: Mission College Boulevard and Wyatt Drive
An officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on Mission College Boulevard at Wyatt Drive on a vehicle with a broken stop lamp. A Records check revealed the female suspect had two confirmed warrants. She was arrested.

Suspicious Circumstances
Location: 100 Block of Washington Street
Public Safety Dispatchers received a call regarding a male subject who left a suitcase next to the building that read “Live Snakes.” Based on the reporting party’s description of the subject, a responding officer was able to locate a subject matching his description. The subject denied placing the suitcase next to the building. Based on the suspicious circumstances, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was summoned to the scene. Deputies from the Bomb Squad examined the suitcase and determined that there were no explosives inside.

NOTE: Thefts from vehicles continue to be problematic. Today, vehicle burglaries were reported on the 3100 block of Mission College Boulevard (19-103195, 19-103207, 19-103209), the 3700 block of El Camino Real (19-103182) and the 5200 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. In each case, belongings (e.g. briefcase, backpack, gym bag) were visible to the suspect(s) and electronics were stolen.

Residential Burglary
Location: 600 Block of Salberg Avenue
Public Safety Dispatchers received a call from a reporting party who witnessed a residential burglary in progress. The reporting party was able to provide a license plate number for the vehicle the two male suspects fled in. The vehicle was reported stolen out of San Jose. Responding officers were not able to locate the suspects.
The suspects made entry to the residence via a door kick, rummaged through the residence and stole an instrument and computer.

Traffic Fatality
Location: Central Expressway and De La Cruz Boulevard
On Friday, December 28, 2018 at about 8:06 p.m., a traffic accident occurred on Central Expressway near De La Cruz Boulevard. A small box truck was travelling westbound on Central Expressway from De La Cruz Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway. The pedestrian was not in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. He succumbed to those injuries and died today (January 4, 2019). The driver of the truck, a 64-year old male resident of San Jose, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He had no signs of intoxication. The pedestrian, a 65-year old male resident of San Jose, was a reported missing person by his family.

Officer Involved Incident
Location: 3471 Lafayette Street
The Santa Clara Police Department is investigating an officer involved incident inside the convenience store of the Rotten Robbie’s gas station, 3471 Lafayette Street. At about 5:42 a.m., dispatchers received multiple 911 calls regarding a heavily armed male indiscriminately shooting in the parking lot as well as inside the store. Initial reports indicated that several victims were down. Officers arrived within minutes and could hear and see the suspect shooting inside the store. They confronted the lone suspect and shot him. The suspect died at the scene. There are no civilian or officer injuries. Our investigation has revealed that prior to arriving at this gas station, the suspect had traveled to the Rotten Robbie’s gas station at 19030 Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino where he is currently employed. He set a fire inside the cashier’s kiosk before leaving the business. The arson is being investigated by the Santa Clara County Fire Department – CR# 190050012. The suspect is being identified at this time as a 55-year old resident of San Jose. A joint investigation is on-going involving the District Attorney’s Office. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Sergeant Alex Torke at (408) 615-4806.
