Shooting Incident Results in Homicide

Law enforcement is searching for information related to a homicide that occurred on Monday, January 7, 2019.

Officers with the Newberry Police Department and Newberry County Sheriff’s Office responded to 616 Glenn Street (All Auto) yesterday in reference to a shooting incident at 1:33 p.m.

Once on scene, officers found the victim had suffered a gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge in Columbia. The medical team worked to stabilize the victim, however those efforts were not successful.

Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece has identified the victim as Sterling Andrea Winn, 58, of Irmo, SC. Kneece said an autopsy conducted today concluded that Winn died of a large amount of blood loss due to a gunshot wound to the back.

Investigators with the Newberry Police Department, Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) worked throughout the evening interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence in the case and are continuing to follow up on leads.

Tyleek Tywon Goudelock, 26, of 2337 Holloway Street in Newberry was charged with misprision of felony, possession with intent to distribute marijuana second offense, possession with intent to distribute marijuana in proximity to park and possession of a controlled substance related to the incident.

Police Chief Roy McClurkin said the motive for this shooting is not yet known at this time.

“Senseless gun violence has become too common in our community,” McClurkin said. “I’m asking the public for help in identifying the person who committed this crime.”
