The Santa Clara Police Department is investigating an officer involved incident inside the convenience store of the Rotten Robbie’s gas station, 3471 Lafayette Street. At about 5:42 a.m., dispatchers received multiple 911 calls regarding a heavily armed male indiscriminately shooting in the parking lot as well as inside the store. Initial reports indicated that several victims were down.
Officers arrived within minutes and could hear and see the suspect shooting inside the store. They confronted the lone suspect and shot him. The suspect died at the scene. There are no civilian or officer injuries.
Our investigation has revealed that prior to arriving at this gas station, the suspect had traveled to the Rotten Robbie’s gas station at 19030 Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino where he is currently employed. He set a fire inside the cashier’s kiosk before leaving the business. The arson is being investigated by the Santa Clara County Fire Department – CR# 190050012.
The suspect is being identified at this time as a 55-year old resident of San Jose.
