On January 4, 2019 at 11:11 a.m. the Janesville Police Department received the report of an attempted bank robbery at the Wisconsin River Bank 1101 N. Parker Dr. Bank employees reported the suspect entered the bank and went behind the counter and attempted to pull drawers open to steal money. Employees confronted the suspect and he fled the bank on foot. No money was taken and there were no injuries reported.

Officer Robert Gruenwald happened to be parked in a parking lot at Hyatt and N. Parker Dr. and saw a dirt bike type motorcycle jump a curb and drive at a high rate of speed from the area south of the bank. Officer Gruenwald pulled out to try to locate the motorcycle again to stop it when the call of the robbery was made. Officer Gruenwald found the motorcycle again as it drove through Traxler Park. When he tried to stop it, the operator fled. Several Janesville officers pursued the motorcycle through the downtown area and then to the 4th Ward area, west of the Rock River. The suspect drove into a backyard in the 300 block of South Jackson St., became trapped behind a fence, and was taken into custody. In his possession was a bag and a facsimile firearm.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Landis. He remains in custody at the Rock County Jail.
