INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: El Evado Road / Seneca Road

INVOLVED
VEHICLES: 1. Silver Honda Civic
2. White Ford F-150
3. Gray Honda Accord

PEDESTRIAN: Andrew Steppan, age 16 a resident of Victorville

SUMMARY:
On Sunday, December 30, 2018, at approximately 7:02 pm, deputies from the Victorville Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian, and a three-vehicle traffic collision, on El Evado Road north of Seneca Road in the City of Victorville. Through investigation, deputies determined that a silver Honda Civic was driving north on El Evado Road when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian has been identified as Andrew Steppan. Steppan was wearing dark clothing and was not in a marked crosswalk. After the collision, the driver of the Honda Civic turned around to check on Steppan. Deputies further determined that after the vehicle versus pedestrian collision, a white Ford pickup truck was driving north on El Evado Road when the driver swerved into the center median to avoid hitting Steppan who was lying in the lanes of traffic. The Ford and the Honda Civic collided head on which pushed the Honda Civic backwards, causing the Civic to side swipe a gray Honda Accord travelling southbound.

Andrew Steppan sustained life threatening injures and was transported to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Honda Civic was transported to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries. The occupants of the Ford F150 and the Honda Accord were uninjured.

Investigators are continuing the investigation into the cause of the collision. El Evado Road, north of Seneca Road and south of Apache Drive, was closed in both directions for several hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Deputy C. Dekeyrel or Deputy A. Hylin at the Victorville Police Station.
