Deputy Steven McPeters of the Sheriff’s Office also charged Carver, Brown and Buckner with possession of marijuana.
On the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 27, McPeters responded to the area of Samir’s, on Sugar Hill Road, in reference to a pickup truck being driven recklessly in the area. The deputy spotted the Ford truck at the store and noticed the bed loaded with tools. Deputies seized 1.2 grams of marijuana and a couple of guns but had no proof at the time that any of the tools were stolen.
Carver, Brown and Buckner were issued citations of the drugs and released.
Then, on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 27, Old Fort police stopped the truck for traffic violations and located 4.63 ounces of marijuana and a stolen shotgun belonging to Andy Moss, of Crooked Creek. The suspects were jailed at that time on felony drug and weapons charges.
The investigation heightened again on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when deputies were called to the U.S. 70 East residence of Joshua Collins and Renee Smith in reference to an assault. While there, deputies and detectives found property that had been reported stolen during a three-month break-in spree in Old Fort. Further investigation into the stolen goods led them back to Carver, Brown, Buckner and Lowery.
