Angels Camp PD arrested 28 year old Daniel Whitford for intentionally killing a dog that chewed his fishing pole.
On 12-28-2009 the Angels Camp Police Department received a telephone call reporting the possible shooting death of a young dog. The caller advised that his daughter is the owner of the dog, and he requested an investigation into the status of the dog. At approximately 6:30 pm on 12-28-2009, an officer spoke with Daniel Whitford, an Angels Camp resident who resides in the 1000 block of Mark Twain Rd.
Whitford admitted that he shot the dog and killed it due to the fact that the dog, a one-year-old labrador mix, chewed up one of his fishing poles. Whitford was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail for intentionally killing the dog.
Additional charges are being considered related to the unlawful discharge of a weapon in the city limits. Several neighbors in the area were questioned and reported hearing a possible gunshot in the neighborhood in the evening hours of 12-27-2009. The information related to the possible gunshot was not reported to police when it occurred.
