Drug suspect flees from deputies but arrested later at mini storage units

Detective Patrick Guion of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Christopher Eugene Hamlin, 35, address listed as Armory Drive in Black Mountain, with two counts each of possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine and one count each of maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance and fleeing to elude arrest.
At 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, while investigating reports of possible drug activity in the area of Ab Elliott Road, Hamlin fled in a vehicle from Guion and Deputy David Jones. Hamlin wrecked his SUV in a field off Twin Lakes Road and ran from the automobile. A hunt for the suspect that night was unsuccessful.
A search of Hamlin’s Chevrolet Tahoe turned up 1.3 grams of methamphetamine, several guns, drug paraphernalia and currency.
Officers were unable to locate Hamlin until the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 12, when Guion received information that the suspect was at some mini storage units off Nix Creek Road.
Authorities located Hamlin at that location and took him into custody. A search of his person and the vehicle in which he was a passenger netted another 15.2 grams of meth, a gun, drug paraphernalia and more money.
