Press Release

Details: On Monday, December 31, 2018 at 4:40 AM, CPD officers were dispatched to the Whitley Gardens Apartments in the 2400 block of Whitley Avenue regarding a disturbance between a male and female. Officers arrived at the scene and saw the male subject run upstairs into an apartment who was identified as Daniel Gomez (age 22). Gomez was a wanted felon with an active Fresno County Sheriff $400,000 bail warrant for weapons charges and an active California Department of Corrections no bail warrant for violation of parole.

Gomez refused commands from officers with exiting the apartment and officers set up a perimeter surrounding the apartment building. Officers gave Gomez repeated commands to exit the apartment and surrender himself over the radio PA system but he continued to refuse. The Central Valley Regional SWAT team was called to the scene to assist with apprehending Gomez due to his history of weapons charges. Gomez finally exited the apartment after speaking with SWAT negotiators and surrendered himself to officers ending the five hour long standoff.

Gomez was later transported and booked at the Kings County Jail in Hanford, CA for the active warrants.
