THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER. THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE WATCH FOR ALL OF THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS
* TIMING...Issued at 8 AM MST on Monday December 31st for very dangerous avalanche conditions to begin Monday evening and continue through Tuesday January 1st
* AFFECTED AREA...the CAIC North San Juan and South San Juan forecasts zones including the San Juan Mountains, San Miguel Mountains, Rico Mountains, Uncompahgre Plateau, Dallas Divide, La Garita Mountains, La Plata Mountains, Needle Mountains and Grenadier Range
* AVALANCHE DANGER...A HIGH(Level 4) avalanche danger will begin this evening
* REASON...A powerful Winter storm will impact southern Colorado over the next 36 hours. Expect a heavy snow load on a weak snowpack beginning late Monday and continuing through Tuesday. The avalanche danger will rise rapidly. Avalanches will be large, easy to trigger and will release naturally.
* AFFECTED AREAS: UNCOMPAHGRE PLATEAU/DALLAS DIVIDE ... NORTHWESTERN SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS ... LA GARITA MOUNTAINS ABOVE 10000 FT ... SOUTHWEST SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS
