French Broad River At Blantyre affecting Henderson and Transylvania Counties Heavy rain of 4-7 inches occurring on top of already saturated soils is producing significant runoff within the French Broad River basin. The French Broad River from Rosman to Blantyre is already well above Minor Flood Stage and rising, causing widespread flooding of low-lying areas and water crossings. Substantial flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to the river near Blantyre is underway and worsening. It will take some time for the floodwave to crest for the French Broad River to recede. The rainfall already received combined with additional rainfall of up to an inch through Friday afternoon will cause the French Broad River to exceed Moderate Flood Stage. Moderate Flooding is significant flooding of farmland, parks, boat-access areas, and adjacent roads. Some structural flooding is likely. Additional rises are possible so residents are encouraged to closely monitor NWS flood products and the river levels at: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=gsp

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Do not drive cars through flooded areas and stay away from low-lying areas including parks and boat access areas. Residents that live along the river may need to evacuate and seek higher ground. Remember, night time makes it difficult to recognize flooded areas.
