Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision

Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision

On Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at approximately 11:34 P.M., Turlock Police Department was notified of an injury traffic collision involving a pickup truck and another vehicle. Officers, Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene in the 1200 block of Lander Ave. Upon arrival, officers located a Nissan pickup and a Ford Mustang which had been involved in the collision. The driver of the pickup was found unresponsive, and personnel performed lifesaving measures on him until he was transported to a local hospital where, unfortunately, he succumbed to the injuries he received as a result of the collision.

Witnesses advised officers that the occupants of the Ford Mustang had walked away from the scene and were later picked up by another vehicle.

Turlock Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Preliminary indications are that the driver of the pickup, 55 year old Jose Mora, from Hilmar, was travelling south on Lander Ave and was attempting to make a “U-turn,” when he was struck by the Mustang which was also travelling south on Lander Ave at a high rate of speed.

As M.A.I.T. is still in the early stages of this investigation, they have not yet determined fault or cause, however, it does appear that speed may have been a factor in this incident. Investigators are processing evidence and working on leads in an effort to identify the driver and occupants of the vehicle.
