Major Traffic Collision Press Release

On Thursday, December 20, 2018, at approximately 9:13 PM, Torrance Police Officers responded to the area of Carlow Road and Calle Mayor regarding a major traffic collision involving two vehicles.

The preliminary investigation reveals the lone driver of a 2008 black Toyota Prius was traveling southwest on Calle Mayor when it collided into a 2000 white Honda Civic that was making a left turn onto Carlow Road from Calle Mayor.  The Honda Civic had four occupants.

As a result of the collision, the two rear passengers, a 26-year-old female and a 22year-old female (both from San Pedro) were ejected from the Honda Civic.  Both individuals were transported to a local hospital with major injuries.  The driver of the Honda Civic, a 19-year-old male from San Pedro, and his front passenger, a 17-yearold female from Wilmington, were also transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

During the investigation, Officers suspected the driver of the Toyota Prius, Paul Molles, 50-year-old male from Redondo Beach, to be driving under the influence of alcohol.  He was subsequently arrested at the scene.

Westbound lanes of Calle Mayor between Carlow Road and Pacific Coast Highway were temporarily closed for approximately 3 hours.

This investigation is being conducted under the command of Torrance Police Captain Mark Underwood of the Special Operations Bureau.  Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Torrance Police Department at (310) 618-5557 (DR# 180060470).
