Here are some cases that occurred over the past few days that may be of interest.

Street Robbery
On December 10th at 9:15 pm, two elder woman were walking on the 2300 block of Ward Street when three suspects walked up to them and tried to take their purses.  When the woman held onto their purses, the suspects punched them and pushed one of them to the ground.  The suspects ran away (with only one of the purses) after the commotion caught the attention of others in the neighborhood who yelled for them to stop.  One of the woman (age 65) was treated at the scene for swelling on her face, while the other woman (age 73) was transported to a local hospital for cuts on her face, hands, and pain in her torso.
 
The suspects were described as African American, Male, early twenties or younger, about 5’5” to 5’8” tall, wearing dark clothing.

Auto Burglars Arrested
On December 12th at 5:38 pm, officers detained two suspects after they saw them park on the 2100 block of Ward Street and then witnessed the passenger get out and use a flashlight to look into several vehicles parked on the street.  Officers detained the suspects nearby after they drove away.  When officers contacted the suspects, they discovered gloves, flashlights, masks, a window punch (tool to break glass), and pieces of broken window glass inside the vehicle.
 
After further investigation, officers arrested the passenger (Parrish Kendricks, Male, 19 years old, Oakland, CA) and the driver (Otis Andrews, Male, 22 years old, Oakland, CA) on suspicion of attempted auto burglary, conspiracy to commit a felony, and possession of burglary tools.

Commercial Burglary
On December 13th at about 4:30 am, officers responded to 2917 Ninth Street (Apple and Mac Solutions) for an alarm activation.  When officers arrived, they discovered that the front glass door was smashed-in.  Officers later learned that several computers were stolen from the location.

Street Robbery
On December 13th at 9:15 pm, a woman was walking on Shattuck Avenue when she noticed four suspects following her.  When she reached Center Street, the suspects surrounded the woman and grabbed her cell phone from her hands.  The woman tried to get her phone back, but the suspects started punching her.  After repeatedly punching the woman, the suspects ran away.  Witnesses describe the suspects as African American, male, about 16 years old, about 5’6” tall, wearing dark clothing.  As a result of the incident, the woman’s (age 20) face was bruised and she received a cut on her lip.

Sex Registrant found with Child Pornography
On December 15th at 4 pm, an officer recognized a suspect walking on Bonita Avenue (near Berkeley Way) as a sex registrant with outstanding felony warrants for a failing to register.  When the officer arrested the suspect, the officer discovered that the suspect had an iPad that contained images of nude children.  The suspect (Carl Bartlett Jones II, Male, 60 years old, Homeless) was consequently arrested on suspicion of possession of child pornography as well as his two arrest warrants.

Mail Thieves Captured
On December 17th at 9:23 pm, officers responded to 1900 block of Haste Street on a report from a resident that a suspect had pried open their mailbox and stolen their mail.  With the description the resident provided, officers were able to detain the suspect just as she was about to drive away.  Inside the vehicle, officers located over 100 pieces of US Mail that belonged to more than 10 different victims.  The suspects (Iiesha Kniekura Moore, Female, 43 years old, Oakland, CA and Trena Maria Wilson, Female, 50 years old, Homeless) were arrested on suspicion of multiple identity theft related crimes.

Arson Arrest
On December 18th at 9 am, officers responded to the corner of University Avenue and Acton Street on a report that a man had set fire to some newspapers that were sitting next to the newspaper rack outside of Fellini CoffeeBar.  When the first officer arrived, she found the suspect in the center median (near Target Express)—still holding the lighter stick.  When the officer attempted to detain the suspect, the suspect ran away—with the officer in chase.  During the foot chase, the suspect flung his shoulder bag at the officer—striking her face.  Once additional officers arrived, the suspect was captured in front of Fellini CoffeeBar.  The suspect (McLedell Silvano, Male, 30 years old, Homeless) was arrested on suspicion of Arson and Battery on Police Officer.  The suspect was also arrested for an outstanding warrant from Fremont for unlawfully causing a fire and an outstanding warrant from San Mateo for a trespass related crime.

Street Robbery
On December 18th at 5:40 pm, a woman was walking on Woolsey Street (near Ellis Street) when a suspect blocked her path and demanded her purse.  When the suspect tried to grab the purse from the woman, she struggled to hold onto the purse and screamed for help.  After the brief struggle, the suspect got away with her purse.  Witnesses describe the suspect as an African American male, 18-23 years old, wearing a white sweatshirt and dark jeans.

Stabbing in Civic Center Park
On December 18th at 1:38 pm, officers responded to Civic Center Park on a report that a man with a stab wound was sitting on a park bench.  Officers located the man sitting on a bench in the northwest corner of the park and saw that he had been stabbed in his chest area.  Shortly thereafter, officers located the suspect on the south side of the park and arrested him on suspicion of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and violation of probation.  The victim (age 56) was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.  Arrested: James Earl Blakes, Male, 57 years old, Homeless

Suspect Double Parks in Stolen Vehicle
On December 18th at 6:14 pm, an officer was on Holiday patrol of Fourth Street when he saw a person double-park their SUV and walk into the Apple Store.  Since the vehicle had paper plates (no license plate), the officer had to use the vehicle’s identification number (VIN), to issue the citation.  When the officer conducted a records check of the vehicle, he learned that it had been reported as stolen from City of Phoenix.  The officer then waited patiently (along with a few other officers) for the man to exit the store—where he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.  Arrested: Keith Allen Wallace, Male, 40 years old, Berkeley, CA).
