Fraud
Location: 4400 Block of Billings
An unknown suspect contacted the victim over the phone posing as the Chinese Consulate. The suspect claimed to be in custody of the victim's passport. The victim was transferred to a second individual, also posing as Shanghai Police. The victim was instructed to and sent pictures of personal identifying information. To date, the victim has not suffered any monetary loss. The suspects remain unknown and at large.

Fraud
Location: 3900 Block of Rivermark Plaza
An unknown suspect called the reporting party posing as a corporate employee conducting an audit. The reporting party supplied the suspect with $1,586 through pre-paid gift cards from the employer.
The following day, the reporting party realized it was a scam and reported the incident to management. The suspect remains unknown and at large.

Theft from a Vehicle
Location: 3900 Block of Freedom Circle
Between 1900 hours to 2100 hours, the unknown suspect(s) used an unknown object to smash the left rear passenger's window of a rental vehicle parked on the 3900 block of Freedom Circle. The suspect(s) stole the victim's backpack containing a computer, external hard disk drive, and wallet with credit cards. The stolen property was valued at approximately $1,300. The suspect(s) is unknown and still outstanding.

Warrant Arrest
Location: Homestead Road and Kiely Boulevard
An officer observed a male subject walking on northbound Kiely Boulevard, near Homestead Road. Given the time, the officer consensually contacted the subject. A Records check revealed the subject had an outstanding warrant for $15,000 out of San Luis Obispo. He was arrested.

NOTE: Twelve thefts from vehicles occurred at various locations throughout the city – 1400 block of Halford Avenue, 3500 block of Homestead Road, 2400 and 3700 blocks of El Camino Real, 2300 block of Augustine Road and at Rivermark Plaza. Protect your valuables and vehicle!

The best way to attract a “smash and grab” thief is to create an easy target – cars with items visible to a thief. To avoid being a victim, make your vehicle less appealing!
• Never leave valuables in sight (e.g. GPS device, laptop, cell phones, wallet/purse, backpack, keys, garage door opener, etc.)
• Park in a well-lit area with lots of vehicle and pedestrian traffic
• Never leave your car running, especially while it is unattended or unlocked
• Roll up your windows, close your sunroof and lock your doors
• Install an audible alarm (and, activate it), visible anti-theft device, subscribe to a service that provides a vehicle immobilizer system and/or consider installing a GPS tracking system
• Carry the registration and insurance card with you. Don't leave personal identification documents or credit cards in your vehicle
• Report suspicious activity by calling 408-615-5580, or 9-1-1 in an emergency

Fatal Traffic Collision
Location: Stevens Creek Boulevard and Maplewood Avenue
On Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at about 6:44 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred near the intersection of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Maplewood Avenue. A white colored Honda Accord, with a female seated in the front passenger seat, was traveling in the wrong direction of traffic - eastbound in the westbound lanes - of Stevens Creek Boulevard. The Honda struck a silver colored Toyota Prius that was traveling in the westbound lanes of Stevens Creek Boulevard. The white Honda then struck a silver colored Honda head-on that was also traveling in the westbound lanes of Stevens Creek Boulevard.
The driver of the white colored Honda was 34-year-old Edgardo Sanchez. He was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening internal injuries. The front seat passenger of the white colored Honda was a 24-year-old female resident of Santa Clara. She received life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. She died at the hospital later that day. The driver of the Prius was a 55-year-old female resident of San Jose. She was not injured in the collision. The driver of the silver colored Honda was a 38-year-old male resident of San Jose. He received minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital. The investigation revealed the vehicle driven by Sanchez was stolen in San Jose. Sanchez was on active Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and he was driving on a suspended driver’s license. A canister of pepper spray was also found in the car.
Sanchez was arrested for the following charges: Vehicular Manslaughter, Auto Theft, Possession of Pepper Spray, Driving on a Suspended License, Violation of Post Release Community Supervision.

Shooting Investigation
Location: 1509 Agnew Road
The Santa Clara Police Department is asking for the public’s help for information related to a shooting that occurred on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at about 12:04 a.m. at 1509 Agnew Road, which is the Sobrato Family Living Center. A group of about 10 males and females were socializing and drinking in the parking lot when a dark colored sedan pulled into the lot. An unknown suspect inside the sedan began shooting at the group. Numerous rounds were shot indiscriminately into the crowd. Two victims were struck and were transported to a local area hospital by their friends. Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Sergeant Saskia Lagergren at (408) 615-4823. NOTE: Officers went to calls regarding three (3) bomb threats today. In each call, the reporting party received an e-mail demanding $20,000 with payment to be made in the form of bitcoin. The e-mails stated that if payment was not received, a bomb would be detonated at the location. In each case, it was determined it was not a credible threat.

Driving Under the Influence
Location: The Alameda and Bellomy Street
Officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision at The Alameda and Bellomy Street. The reporting party was the male driver of a vehicle who had struck, and knocked over, a light pole. The driver was not injured and displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. He failed to complete the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests satisfactorily. His preliminary blood alcohol screening was 0.145 and 0.153. He was arrested.

Petty Theft
Location: 2800 Block of Chromite Drive
On 12/15/18 at approximately 0930 hours an officer responded to the 2800 block of Chromite Drive on the report of a prior theft.
On 12/14/18 at approximately 1345 hours an unknown suspect(s) stole a package from the front porch of a residence. The item in the package was valued at $60. The theft was captured on video surveillance which was submitted as evidence. The suspect(s) remains unknown and at-large.

Water & Sewer Utility, Police, Fire, Public Works and Silicon Valley Power personnel will continue to provide 24/7 assistance during the Holiday closure in response to emergencies.
