Kenwood assault suspect identified, cited.

On December 12th the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release about a man riding his bicycle in Kenwood who physically assaulted a woman after a verbal confrontation. A photo of the suspect was taken by a neighbor and distributed.

On the afternoon of December 12th, bicyclist Robert Deis, a 62-year-old Santa Rosa man, contacted the Sheriff’s Office to give his side of the story. Deis claimed to have been in the initial verbal confrontation with the two Kenwood residents but at one point, the victim came after him while he was still straddling his bicycle and shoved him in the chest. He grabbed her arms and was able to push her away from him in self-defense and she fell backwards towards her husband. Deis then fled on his bicycle to avoid further confrontation.

Based on the circumstances of the case, Deis was issued a citation for misdemeanor battery and released with a future court date.
