September's Blazing Star Lane shooting subject, Reginald Bascom Jr., now incarcerated in the Detention Center

On September 16th at approximately 6:05 p.m., Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Blazing Star Lane, Hilton Head Island to a report of shots fired with two gunshot victims. When deputies arrived, the two adult male gunshot victims—one shot in the torso and the other in the hand—were located and transported to medical facilities: one to Savannah Memorial and the other to the Medical University of South Carolina.

Responding deputies learned that prior to their arrival, the subject responsible for the shooting had fled. No physical description of the subject was available at that time, but witnesses reported seeing a silver sedan with a rear spoiler leaving Blazing Star Lane at a high rate of speed.

Sheriff's Office investigators responded to Blazing Star Lane to interview witnesses and examine the crime scene for forensic evidence. During their examination of the scene, investigators recovered multiple shell casings near the road and discovered that—in addition to the two men being wounded—a residence had been struck by bullets during the shooting incident.

In the days following the shooting, Sheriff's Office investigators located and seized the silver vehicle—2006 Lexus IS—as it was identified as the vehicle that witnesses observed speeding away from Blazing Star Lane after the shooting. In addition, the owner of the silver Lexus, 25-year-old Reginald Bascom Jr. of Hilton Head Island, was identified by witnesses as the subject who shot and wounded both men.

Sheriff's Office investigators met with a Beaufort County magistrate on Thursday—September 20th—and presented the facts of the case. The magistrate found probable cause to issue warrants for Reginald Bascom Jr.'s arrest for Attempted Murder (two counts), Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Violent Crime and Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling.

On Wednesday—October 3rd—after receiving information on his whereabouts, the United States Marshals Service located and arrested Reginald Bascom Jr. in Sacramento, California. The Marshals have since traveled cross-country with Bascom Jr. in their custody and arrived in Beaufort County this morning.

Bascom Jr. was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center on the charges of Attempted Murder (two counts), Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Violent Crime and Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling. He has yet to receive his bond hearing on the four charges.
