When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.


Notable Cases

On Monday, 12-03-18 at 10:55 p.m., a 21-year old Daly City resident was involved in a traffic collision at North Mayfair Avenue and Cliffside Drive. He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Tuesday, 12-04-18 at 7:35 p.m., subsequent to Officer Taylor and Officer Mahan conducting a check on a suspicious vehicle parked at Geneva Avenue and Santos Street, a 22-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for being in possession of a loaded unregistered firearm in his vehicle.

On Thursday, 12-06-18 at 1:45 a.m. a 29-year old Daly City resident was arrested for providing false information to a police officer and for driving a vehicle with a suspended driver's license. This occurred following a traffic stop by Officer Bermudez at School Street and Station Avenue.

On Thursday, 12-06-18 at 8:21 a.m., a 32-year old Pacifica resident rear ended a car at southbound Skyline Boulevard and Hickey Boulevard. The driver was on probation, and prior to the car being towed, the officers did an inventory of the contents of the vehicle and found heroin and methamphetamine in the vehicle. The subject was cited for those offenses.

On Friday, 12-07-18 at approximately 11:00 a.m., Officer Chittenden and Officer Ortiz were dispatched to the Jollibee restaurant on a report of a subject refusing to exit the restroom. The subject, a 39-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for possession of a baton, parole violation and for obstructing a police officer.

On Friday, 12-07-18 at 11:43 p.m., a 28-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended driver's license after he was involved in a traffic collision at East Moltke Avenue and Hillside Boulevard.

Robberies


There were three robberies during the past week.

On Tuesday, 12-04-18 at approximately 2:15 p.m., a 44-year old Daly City resident was the victim of a strong arm robbery by two subjects. The victim said he was punched in the face by a male subject, and a female who was with the male stole his bicycle. This occurred on the 200 block of Lake Merced Boulevard. This investigation is continuing.

On Wednesday, 12-05-18 at 6:35 a.m., three unknown suspects took power tools from Home Depot and walked out of the store without paying for them. A Home Depot employee tried to stop the subjects, but one of the subjects held onto the merchandise by force causing the employee to sustain a minor injury to her finger.

On Sunday, 12-09-18 at 10:38 p.m., several officers were dispatched to an active physical altercation on the unit block of Park Plaza Drive. Officers determined this was related to a person who had stolen merchandise from the Burlington Coat Factory and the loss prevention agents who were chasing the subject after the subject threw a box at one loss prevention officer and punched another. The subject, a 41-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for robbery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and for a probation violation.


Residential Burglaries

There were no residential burglaries during the past week.


Commercial Burglaries

There was one commercial burglary during the past week.

Between Tuesday, 12-04-18 at 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 12-05-18 at 8:30 a.m., an unknown suspect burglarized the boiler/storage room at the Thomas Edison Elementary School.



Vehicle Burglaries

There were ten vehicle burglaries and two attempted vehicle burglaries during the past week

• 2500 block of Geneva Avenue—unknown what was taken from a 2014 Acura ILX. The right front window was smashed. Occurred prior to 2:24 a.m. on 12-04-18.
• 1000 block of San Gabriel Circle—a dash cam was taken from a 2016 Mazda CX5. The right front window was smashed. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on 12-03-18 and 8:15 a.m. on 12-04-18.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking structure—an Apple MacBook Pro was taken from the trunk of a 2005 Acura TXS. There were no signs of forced entry. Occurred on 12-05-18 between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
• Hickey Boulevard/Innisfree Drive—unknown what was taken from a 2014 Ford C-Max. The right front window was smashed. Occurred prior to 12-06-18 at 3:36 a.m.
• Parking lot of 901 Campus Drive—nothing was taken from a 2009 Ford Fusion. The right front window was smashed. Occurred between 8:30 p.m. on 12-05-18 and 7:00 a.m. on 12-06-18.
• Parking lot of 901 Campus Drive—paperwork was taken from the glovebox of a 2008 Ford Mustang. The passenger window was smashed. Occurred between 6:00 p.m. on 12-05-18 and 6:15 a.m. on 12-06-18. **On-line report made.
• Parking lot of 391 Mandarin Drive—paperwork was taken from a 2016 Honda Accord. An unknown window was smashed. Occurred on 12-06-18 at an unknown time. **On-line report made.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near Target—a lunch bag was taken from a 2016 Acura RDX. The right front window was smashed. Occurred on 12-06-18 at 5:33 p.m.
• 3000 block of Geneva Avenue—an iPod and flashlight were taken from a 2004 GMC Yukon. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred between 9:00 p.m. on 12-07-18 and 5:00 a.m. ln 12-08-18. **On-line report made.
• Parking lot of St. Andrew’s Church—a bag containing medicine, Apple and Sony electronics was taken from a 2016 Honda CRV. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 12-09-18 between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. **On-line report made.
• 2500 block of Geneva Avenue—an attempted burglary to a 2011 Toyota Sienna. The front passenger window was smashed but nothing was taken. Occurred between 8:00 p.m. on 12-03-18 and 2:00 a.m. on 12-04-18.
• 2500 block of Geneva Avenue—an attempted burglary to a 2015 Subaru Impreza. The front passenger window was smashed but nothing was taken. Occurred between 8:00 p.m. on 12-03-18 and 2:00 a.m. on 12-04-18.



Stolen Vehicles

There were three vehicles stolen during the past week. One was recovered.

• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot #A7—a 2002 Honda Accord. Occurred on 12-05-18 between 3:10 p.m. and 4:10 p.m.
• Knowles Avenue/Santa Barbara Avenue—a 2015 Honda Accord. Occurred between 11:00 p.m. on 12-08-18 and 9:00 a.m. on 12-09-18.
• 500 block of South Hill Boulevard—a 2007 Chevrolet Trail Blazer SS. Occurred on 12-09-18 at 4:29 a.m.


Miscellaneous

• We responded to 8 domestic disturbance cases
• There were 3 shoplifting incidents reported
• There were 9 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold
• There were 10 vandalism cases reported
• There were 4 hit and run collisions reported
• Our Police Assistants put “boots” on 14 vehicles


Scams/Other

Chinese Medicine Scam

On Tuesday, 12-04-18 between 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m., a 68-year old Daly City resident was the victim of false pretenses via the promise of medicine to cure her son in China. Three Chinese females between the ages of 40-50 years old. The 68-year old victim, who only speaks Cantonese, said she was walking down Southgate Avenue to the library when she was approached on Elmwood Drive by a Chinese female who asked her if she knew the name of a flower used in Chinese medicine that could cure diseases and injuries. The victim said she did not, and the two struck up a conversation. The victim said she started to walk with the subject towards Our Lady of Mercy Church, still talking about the flower. The victim said another female walked up and said she overheard the conversation and that she even had the plan growing in her background. The victim said a third subject joined in on the conversation, and they started asking her questions about her marital status, children, etc. The victim told the women that she had a sick son in China. One of the women told her in order to take care of the “problem”, they needed to use the special flower to make the medicine to save his life. The victim was coerced into collecting cash and jewelry and to put it in her purse to make sure her son’s problems would be “taken care of”. The victim said the women did not ask her for cash or jewelry, but simply stated that she should just put it in her purse so her son may live. The victim gathered the items and put them in her purse. She said one of the suspects gave her a black plastic bag and said it contained the medicine to save her son, but to put it in her purse and to “not open it for one year.” The victim said she put the bag in her purse, and the women left in a black four door sedan. The victim said when she got home, she opened her purse and discovered her bag was gone and that the black plastic bag contained newspaper, a brick of brown sugar and a water bottle. The victim has no idea how the women got her bag. The victim can only describe the women as all being Chinese, between 40-50 years old, black hair, brown eyes, 5’5”, 140 pounds. One wore a black jacket, one had a blue jacket, and one had a green jacket.

Chinese Blessing Scam

This is a very similar scam as the one mentioned above. On Tuesday, 12-04-18, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., a 57-year old Daly City resident was the victim of a Chinese scam of blessing cash and jewelry. This occurred at the MUNI bus stop at Geneva Avenue and Rio Verde Street. In this case, the victim was approached by three Chinese females between 40 and 50 years old who asked her if she knew where she could get ingredients to make a Chinese medicine-type soup. The females started up a conversation, and they determined they were from the same area in China. The females ultimately told the victim they could bless her money to bring hospitality to her and her family. Eventually the victim was coerced into placing a large amount of money and a gold necklace in a backpack and went to another location to bless the items. The victim said the backpacks were switched temporarily, and later she discovered her items were gone and replaced with crumpled up paper and a water bottle.
